Irreverent Idiots Workshop:

A physical comedy & clown workshop led by the team behind Little Soldier’s Don Quixote.

This November, join Little Soldier’s Artistic Directors, Patricia and Mercè,  and Associate Collaborator, Stephen Harper, for a brilliant a five-day intensive workshop into two key aspects of our approach to making new work: technique and anarchy.

Throughout the workshop, we will explore the balance between chaos and choreographed material whilst maintaining the truth of the situation. This is one of comedy’s main challenges and our primary focus. Devising collaboratively as a company, we will culminate in a performance showcasing our discoveries at the end of the week.

 We will work on:

  • slapstick and physical routines
  • our relationship with the audience: truth, freedom and pleasure
  • pre-existing stories, subverting classics and creating new meaning
  • the beauty in tragicomedy and Little Soldier performance ethos

It’s a programme suitable for participants with an interest in extending their knowledge and practice of physical comedy and clown. People who are interested in Little Soldier’s method of creating work and who are open to experimenting and collaborating with other like-minded people should apply.

The workshop will be led by Little Soldier Associate Collaborator and Told by an Idiot Associate, Stephen Harper. Patricia and Mercè, Artistic Directors of Little Soldier, will be closely supporting the leading of the programme.

“The workshop was utterly brilliant. We used techniques we had never explored before, which sparked ideas that fed directly into the whole R&D process for the week, as well as some old favourites which gave us an opportunity to sharpen our tools.”

“This workshop reminded me of a few golden things; the need to play and the need to be ok even in ‘The Flop’”.

“You embraced everyone’s qualities in the room and made that part of the show – everyone had something to bring to the piece which was what made it so dynamic and exciting.”
